This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

Engine light and tire light on all the time. Transmission failed at 3500 miles. Currently at dealer.

  • Very disappointed Jeep owner - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep and my first American car. What a disappointment. The car is always giving me problem. Just recently at 27K miles the transmission went. Then again at 36K miles and within a year of the transmission some circuit board that controls the transmission blows. Then itÂ’s the squeaky wheel which will cost me $800 to fix. The car is falling apart and it only has 36K miles and 4.5 years old. BE AWARE AND DO NOT BUY A JEEP. I am trading mine for a more reliable car.

  • A lemon that fell from a lemon tree. - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 weeks into ownership had transmission problems. Took back to dealer several times for adjustments. Not kidding about this paint started "bubbling" on roof pockets of rust showing. Mind you under 5k miles at this point. Made several pleas with Chrysler to make a fair trade deal or something but they ignored me until I got a lemon lawyer. It ended costing them $6k and out of that I ended up with $3k we both lost!

  • Will not buy a Jeep again! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Having leased a 2000 Jeep Laredo, I was excited at the new Jeep models in 2005. A week after purchase, I discovered that rain was leaking through the pillar between the windshield and drivers window. Dealership fixed, but leak returned several times afterward. Disappointed in exterior integrity. Mileage better than expected on highway. Fairly comfortable ride. Rear windows would open, but wouldnt go back up without pushing them from the outside. Overall, disappointed in Jeep "quality".

  • call me a fool - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

call me a fool. I have owned 5 Jeep Cherokees/Grand Cherokees over the years. This one is by far the worst of the bunch. With 21,000 miles, I have had 4 rear pinion seal leaks, 1 transmission leak, faulty front brake rotors (I had to pay 50% of the cost to replace the warped rotors since I had over the 12,000 brake warranty), a relay replacement so that the rear flipper glass would operate, a transmission recall where a vent tube had to be installed to prevent potential engine fire and lots of other aggravation. The vehicle does ride nicely...especially from home to the dealership for service. Gas mileage is poor. Never again-this is why the domestic car producers are losing to the imports.

I have owned my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for two years now. When I purchased it I felt there was way too much Chrysler influence. I was right! I have had this Jeep to the dealer 6 times. It is now in the shop because leaked oil all over the exhaust system and filled the interior with smoke. I assume the PVC valve froze and created a pressure built up in the crank case. This caused the oil to exit the weakest point. I am afraid that I will have a very expensive repair bill. I owned a 2002 Jeep and from the time I bought it, it never saw the dealers lot again. I loved the reliability. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

  • BUYER BEWARE! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Please make sure the transmission is checked before you put your name on paper. They are having problems with water getting into the transmission. I had mine flushed several times and I kept telling them it is not driving right. Of course they say, the computer is not coming up with any codes. Well coming home from two nights ago my transmission went out on a major highway. This is the fourth time that it is in the service dept. I am glad I live in Florida where there is a lemon law.

We have had nothing but continuing problems with this vehicle. It has been in the shop 4 times for transmission problems, one time for the security chip going out (leaving me stranded), and 2 times for the tire pressure light which comes on often for no reason. In addition, the MPG average is 13 mpg, which is not what the window sticker said. Also, the canvas type seats stain terribly, even from water. Kinda funny for a Jeep.

Bought this used, in 15 months been in the dealers 5 times. Still under the 7- 70 coverage, but doesnt ever get fixed. Shift and noise issues. Dealer replaced trans valve body, trans went out all together days later. They serviced the front diff, same thing, diff went out days later. Every time gets worse after they touch it. At the dealer now, "no problem found", sounds like a Mack truck going down the road. Just waiting to see what else theyve screwed up. Have the v-8, power lacking, gas mileage stinks. My wife loves it for some reason. My Tahoe at 130k is twice the car this ever was, less noise, better mpg, very few repairs, nothing major like this thing.
